Suspected Stalker Inquired: 'But What If I Am Madeleine?'
A woman charged with harassing Kate McCann reportedly left her a phone message which asked: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who a jury heard has repeatedly claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial indicted with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the tribunal heard call records and data obtained from phones recorded Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a genetic test throughout that period.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a family holiday in Portugal - is considered the most covered investigations and continues to be unsolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
Another voicemail, shared in court, captured Ms Wandelt stating: "I know I'm heavy and unattractive like Madeleine was, but I feel what I know."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "What if there is a small chance that I'm her? What happens next? Isn't that important for you?"
"I don't want money, I possess a existence here in Poland, I just want to understand," the message continued.
The jury was told that by means of electronic messages, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, transmitted youth pictures to her phone in a attempt to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a early life with the McCanns.
The investigator, an intelligence analyst with law enforcement who collated the evidence, told the court there "seemed to lack any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore contacted family friends of the McCanns, according to the communication logs.
On that date, Gerry McCann responded to a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "incorrect contact information."
That day Ms Wandelt left a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail saying "I will continue and I plan to establish my point."
The court was informed the co-defendant struck up a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt before joining her on a trip to the McCanns' home in the county in last December.
Call logs showed Mrs Spragg had communicated through communication app to Mrs McCann to say the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be taken seriously in the time leading up to the visit to that location, that area, in December 2024.
The court learned correspondence between the two defendants, in last November, discussing trying to get Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her bins or from silverware at a restaurant.
"We need to take action," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the appearance to their house, the defendant transmitted a message which said: "We are sat near the McCanns' residence with our vehicle dark similar to private investigators. I wanted to accomplish this with Peter Andrew I never thought I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The trial ongoing.
