Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Speaking About Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Tearing the Country Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she finds it inappropriate suitable to voice opinions countering the Trump government, worried it could intensify divisive discussions and deepen rifts throughout the United States.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Explains Lawrence
During a discussion, she reflected, “During the first Trump administration, I thought I was running around without clear direction. But experience has shown, through repeated campaigns, celebrities have no real impact whatsoever on electoral choices.”
Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to heighten conflict tearing the country apart.”
Changing Allegiances
Lawrence has spoken candidly about voting for both right and leftwing candidates over the years. Growing up with a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she supported John McCain in the 2008 election prior to switching to the left-leaning politics and explaining she recognized during President Obama’s term that voting Republican was undermining her individual liberties as a female citizen.
Previous Comments
In 2015, she commented that a Trump victory would be “a catastrophic event” and publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “as I believe she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will do whatever she can to safeguard women’s health rights.”
Industry Position
The star was joined by many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the minimal impact stars have over the voting intentions was highlighted by the outcome.
“This upcoming term feels different,” commented she of his administration. “Since he stated his intentions. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was transparent. And that’s what we chose.”
Current Projects
Lawrence is discussing her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she stars as a young mom who struggles with her mental health in the countryside. At a interview session for the film in the film festival, the star spoke about the situation in the Middle East: “It’s frightening. It’s devastating. What’s happening is equivalent to a genocide and it’s horrible.”
Additional Thoughts
Lawrence added by expressing that she was disappointed by “the hostility in the conversations of the political landscape right now and how that is going to be accepted to the younger generation now. It’s going to be standard to them that elected officials deceive.”
The actor sought to redirect outrage about the situation to leaders rather than entertainers. “Keep attention on those accountable,” she advised, in what many took to be a nod to the then-recent pledge signed by more than 4,000 Hollywood professionals to boycott Israeli film institutions.
Relatable Experiences
The actor, who won an Oscar early in her career for her role in the acclaimed film, is receiving praise for her portrayal in her latest project. Even though Ramsay has denied the plot being understood as one of post-birth struggles and psychological distress, Lawrence shared that she identified with parts of her role’s experience after the arrival of her new baby, not long after shooting ended.
“I felt anxiety about my child,” she said, “just picturing every worst-case scenario, and then doubting everything that I was doing. I was receiving counseling, but I started taking a medication called the prescription and I continued it for a short period and it made a difference.”
Career Moments
Lawrence also discussed about the freeing requirement of completing nude scenes in the movie while she was expecting and unable to exercise.
“It’s refreshing,” she said, of being forced to set aside self-consciousness. “I mean, I do have moments where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
