A Heap of Anime News Arrived During the Holidays
The Christmas holidays present a multitude of pastimes much better than catching up on the latest news: unwrapping gifts, feasting on festive fare, and employing patience techniques to refrain from snapping at relatives. It is wished you managed to do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Numerous noteworthy news items came out during the holidays, and just in case you didn't see any, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Set to Continue (By 2027)
Truly the most shocking announcement, the much-discussed troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter the series' continuation. Season 3 will return with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which might be a hopeful indicator. Yet, the key visual for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, by now, they are probably teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series showed it still retained the fans' appreciation and enthusiasm, and now the community is overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Has a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been going on for some time, and its sixth season was a further excellent entry. Apparently that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will probably debut in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
A further studio known for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Will Return With a Second Season
Right after the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has yet to be revealed.
